چکیده

Fat digestion in the breastfed newborn infant is a process catalyzed by three Upases. The process is initiated in stomach contents by gastric lipase and continues in the upper part of the small intestine by pancreatic colipase-dependent lipase and human milk bile-salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL). Development of powerful techniques in molecular biology has made it possible to gain better insight into the structure of these lipases, which is necessary for a detailed understanding of the different functional aspects. We shall briefly discuss recent advances in structural knowledge of the lipases as well as their functional implications. We shall focus mainly on the human enzymes but, when relevant, also discuss corresponding enzymes of other species.

Fat digestion and absorption in the adrenalectomized rat.

Malabsorption of fat in the adrenalectomized rat has been confirmed. The criteria for adrenal hypofunction were more rigorous than in previous studies. The malabsorption is not due to impaired intestinal lipolysis or inadequate intestinal intracellular glyceride synthesis. Delayed gastric emptying is probably secondary to the malabsorption rather than a cause. It is postulated that impaired int...

The effect of intestinal bile on the stability of lipid-based vesicular system used as oral drug carriers

Received: December 02, 2016; Accepted: December 21, 2016; Published: December 23, 2016 Intestinal bile salts are bio-surfactants existing in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) which have essential role either on fat and lipid digestion or absorption [1]. Acidic lipases, which are secreted by the gastric chief cells in the fundic mucosa of the stomach, regulate10-30% of the lipid hydrolysis. In th...

Coassimilation of dietary fat and benzo(a)pyrene in the small intestine: an absorption model using the killifish.

Benzo(a)pyrene (BP) was dissolved in dietary fat and fed in a single dose to killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus). Fluorescence microscopic examinations of small intestinal content and frozen sections of whole small intestine revealed that during fat digestion BP was codispersed in liquid crystalline product phases produced during lipolysis (1979. Fat absorption in cystic fibrosis mice is impeded by defective lipolysis and post-lipolytic events.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is frequently associated with progressive loss of exocrine pancreas function, leading to incomplete digestion and absorption of dietary fat. Supplementing patients with pancreatic lipase reduces fat excretion, but it does not completely correct fat malabsorption, indicating that additional pathological processes affect lipolysis and/or uptake of lipolytic products. To delin...

Appetite suppression through delayed fat digestion.

High-fat diets are often associated with greater caloric intake and weight gain. Since satiety during fat intake is induced by fat in the intestine we investigated the efficiency of a lipid compound that retards fat digestion to regulate fat intake. We found this compound to reduce high-fat food intake, body weight and blood lipids in Sprague-Dawley rats, without causing steatorrhea. The absenc...
